Here’s how you can help protect Hanauma Bay:
1. Use Reef-Safe Sunscreen
Many sunscreens contain harmful chemicals that damage coral reefs. Choose a reef-safe, mineral-based sunscreen (with non-nano zinc oxide or titanium dioxide) to protect your skin without harming marine life.
2. Avoid Touching Coral and Marine Life
Coral reefs are delicate, living structures that take decades to grow. Stepping on, touching, or disturbing them can cause irreversible damage. Always float or swim without making contact with the reef.
3. Respect the Wildlife
Hanauma Bay is a sanctuary for sea turtles, fish, and other marine species. Keep a safe distance and never feed, chase, or touch marine animals. Feeding disrupts their natural diet and behaviors.
4. Don’t Leave Trash Behind
